The original clinic was situated in the same location as the former practice of Plunkett Devlin, who operated from premises here in Straffan until he retired in 2004, selling the practice to Denis.

Denis bought a small farm in Feighcullen, Rathangan in 2012 and constructed a new clinic there.

Denis qualified from University College Dublin's Veterinary College in Ballsbridge in 1990. Following 2 years in mixed practice in the U.K. he spent a year in Australia working with Jim Gannon amongst others. On returning to the U.K. he worked with Plunkett Devlin who was then in practice in Rugby until Plunkett left to return to Ireland. Having taken over Plunkett's U.K. practice and later opening the English version of the Canine Sports Medicine Clinic in Leicestershire, he spent 8 years in single-man mainly greyhound practice there.

Hearing of Mr Devlin's pending retirement in 2004 in Ireland Denis seized the opportunity to sell the U.K. business and move home.

Denis is one of four external members of the Irish Greyhound Board's Scientific Committee which advises the Board on scientific best practice for drug testing. He is in demand for conferences home and abroad, and is set to speak at the Greyt Escape - Kennel to Kouches 2016 conference in Wheeling, West Virginia in August 2016.

Certificate In Veterinary Acupuncture

Denis completed IVAS training in veterinary acupuncture in 2001 in the U.K. through Exeter University. He continues to use acupuncture in greyhounds and pet dogs daily.

UCD Postgraduate Certificate in Canine Sports Medicine

Denis is one of the originators of this new course which began in 2009, continued in 2010 and which is set to run again in 2011. He is involved in delivering both online and practical content for the course given at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in UCD. Denis was recently conferred with the certificate along with 20 others, becoming the first class ever to graduate.

Denis is also a member of the welfare committee of Veterinary Ireland and is active on many issues related to greyhound welfare.

Certificate in Equine Sports Medicine

Thinking there was significant overlap between the sports medicine disciplines in horses and greyhounds, Denis completed another certificate in Equine Sports Medicine in 2014. The knowledge gained there has had a significant spillover benefit in the canine practice.
